Why study and train in Udine?

Human dimension
At the centre of Europe, in the heart of a region with a vocation for innovation and integration is Udine. Udine is a medium-sized town; warm, welcoming and easy to feel at home in. Its human dimension is demonstrated by the growing multicultural population - many of whom have set up various commercial ventures in the town. Both foreign permanent residents and temporary visiting students, researchers and professors add to the ethnic variety of the town. The historic centre is perfectly suited to pedestrians, and there are many zones which are traffic-free during the day. The University campuses can also be easily reached on foot, or for the scientific campus, with one of the frequent public buses.

High quality and standard of life
According to annual national surveys carried out by the Sole24 newspaper, Udine ranks high in the list of Italian provinces for the quality of life the town guarantees its citizens.

A young and dynamic University
The University of Udine was founded in 1978 as part of the reconstruction plan of Friuli after the earthquake in 1976. Its aim was to provide the local community with an independent centre for advanced training in cultural and scientific studies. It has reached its goal and much more. The University not only seeks to further its links with the local community but it is increasingly concerned with collocating itself in the global education field. It is the right place for you!

A vast choice of studies
Whatever you're interested in, you will find it in Udine! The city offers a wide range of education paths and training opportunities, thank to the University of Udine with its 10 faculties and research centres and institutions.

High performance
Top marks! In 2009, the CENSIS national survey of Universities put the School of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Udine in pole position again. It has held the best classification in Italy based on criteria including productivity, courses, research and international relations since 2002. The Faculty of Education is also the best one in Italy according to the CENSIS already since 2007. Proud bearer of a silver medal, is the Faculty of Languages ranked in second position in Italy. On a national level also the Faculties of Humanities (7th place), Agriculture (8th) and Science (8th) compete well and are within the Top 10.

Technology Transfer
Some of the most fruitful achievements of the Udine territory are the Technology Transfer and dissemination of innovative knowledge between the academic and scientific institutions and private companies resulting in Spin Off Companies and IPR management and licensing.

Science and Technology Park

Thanks to the collaboration between regional and international institutions, the town of Udine became the seat of the region's second Science and Technology Park in 2004. The park situated on the fringe of the industrial zone covers more than 50,000 square metres overall and its architecture is in harmony with the development of ideas and the environment. As well as administrative offices, laboratories, research bodies, centres of excellence, technological transfer organisations and high-tech companies, there are also spaces dedicated to training needs and cultural events. The Science park offers services to develop strategies, processes, technologies and human resources for the promotion and support of innovation at every stage. From the generation of entrepreneurial ideas to the creation of new enterprises, incubating, mentoring, funding, seeking partners, networking and starting up.

Welcome services centre dedicated to international students and researchers
The academic and research institutions in Udine provide a 'Welcome Office' portal and infopoint in the town centre for incoming students and researchers from all over the world to assist them in the organisation of their stay in Udine. A highly personalised information service is available from qualified multilingual staff, who are able to give advice regarding entry and residence procedures, health assistance, accommodation options, social life and leisure activities, local events and academic opportunities.

International vocation
Ideally set in the heart of an enlarged Europe, the academic and scientific institutions of Udine are very much inclined toward internationalization. Within such projects, the training of students capable of meeting the needs of an increasingly international professional life in the global economy becomes a fundamental mission. In the full spirit of the Bologna, Lisbon and Bergen declarations, the University of Udine enhances its international co-operation in Higher Education. Joint curricula at levels I, II and Ph.D. are therefore of high priority, as they are considered important tools for building the European Space of Higher Education and for the integration of different educational systems.

Languages
At Udine all students are encouraged to gain familiarity with the English language through a core module. Some faculties also offer the possibility of following further courses specialised in business terminology or English for academic purposes. Also, the Language Centre offers free courses on different levels, as well as free Italian courses for international students to help you to settle in, make friends and make the best of your courses from the very beginning.

Work Placements
The University of Udine runs a very efficient Work Placement Service for its students who have to spend part of their course in professional training. All placements organised by this office are fully recognised by the University as part of the degree credits. Possible host organisations are national and foreign companies, public administration, museums, libraries... all needs are catered for!
