Why carry out research in Udine?

Udine hosts a high number of research institutions, academic institutions, scientific park centres and high-level research infrastructures.
The institutions of Udine aim at developing technological innovations, increasing business competitiveness and creating the most favorable condition for researchers coming from all over the world.

This scientific system currently includes:

A mail stone of the research activities in Udine is the University of Udine. The University is actively engaged in a wide range of research activities, not only internally but also in co-operation with other universities and research institutes at both national and international level. The University's strong research focus has seen it become a centre of excellence in a considerable number of fields, such as: public relations and Central and Eastern European languages; logistics, micromechanics, energy and environmental technology; food technology, genomics, agronomy, ecology, environmental control and bio-purification systems; information filtering, software solutions for research verification and validation, operative research and web technology; archaeological restoration, image, sound, and manuscript/paper restoration; muscular plasticity, transplant surgery and medical IT solutions; economic monitoring, banking economics and business strategy in industrial zones; aquaculture and nutrition; international and transport law.
Scientific research is performed and coordinated by 28 Departments and 8 interdepartmental centres. In Udine is activated Star Cup Business plan competition and here 90 patents have been filed so far, 29 of which licensed.
