Immigration Services

Once in Italy you may need to handle some bureaucracy for various reasons.

Should you need professional support, in Udine you can find authorised offices called CAF (Centro Assistenza Fiscale - Centre for Fiscal Assistance) and PATRONATI which can help you with a number of issues:

Permit of stay:
If you are having problems filling out the application form for your permit of stay, the Patronato can do it for you and provide you with all the relevant information about the documentation you are required to provide.
Moreover, it can assist you and provide information when it comes to converting your permit (from one type to another, for example from a 'study' to a 'working' permit).
If you have been in Italy for more than five years, you can ask for a permanent residence permit.

Family reunion:
If your family wish to come to Italy to stay with you, the Patronato can help you with all the relevant documentation and procedures.

Foreign Pensions:
If you are a professor or a researcher, you probably have pension contributions you have been paying or paid for you in more than one country. You can check if you can use them for an Italian pension.

Tax return:
Non-residents with an income earned in Italy must also file a tax return form (Dichiarazione dei Redditi). The tax system is based on self-assessment and the tax office won't send you a tax return form or chase you to complete one. You must file a different tax return form according to whether you are employed or self-employed.

ISEE certificate:
It is a document attesting your economic situation. You may need it in order to obtain social services (kindergartens, tax relief for university fees, etc.).

Bonuses:
If you have a low income, you can ask for some specific social service or benefit.

Company start-up and self-employment:
The Patronato staff will support you in all the procedures required to open a company or become self-employed.

Domestic help:
The Patronato offers support for drawing up contracts for domestic help and Allowances of Social Security Welfare.
