What do you need to buy a car in Italy?

If you want to buy a new car or a second hand car in Italy, you have to be resident in Italy. Moreover, in this case, according to the Italian Law, you have to register the conveyance and to update your plating certificate.

Please, be aware that you must register the conveyance within 60 days from the date of signature validation of the bill of sale.

For further information and for the registration and the update of the documents (car registration document and property certificate) you have to address to one of the following office:

- Private agencies for car-related issues (for example driving school).

Furthermore be informed that you will be asked to submit the following documents:
- substitutive declaration of the residence certificate and the personal data
- copy of your identity card and your Italian tax identification code;
- permit of stay.

What do you need to bring your car in Italy?
Here follows the documents necessary to register a car already registered abroad:
- registration documents duly cancelled to export (with specific translation);
- customs bill of entry;
- technical data matching EC regulations provided by the foreign authority or by the representative in Italy of the car manufacturer;
- bill of sale if the applicant is not the car's owner (the bill changes according to the Country of owner). In this case you need to test your car (collaudo).
The registration with Italian plate is mandatory if you have the residence in Italy and in that case you have 12 months for up-dating your car documents.

You must bring the mentioned documents to Motorizzazione Civile of Trieste.
