Short-term scientific mission opportunities for researchers - COST programme

COST Action Fp1005 "Fibre suspension flow modelling: a key for innovation and competitiveness in the pulp & paper industry" is an Action of the COST Programme (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) funded in the period 07/2011 - 06/2015 by the European Science Foundation, allowing coordination of nationally-funded research on a European level.

THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF COST ACTION FP1005 IS TO PROMOTE AND DISSEMINATE VALIDATED COMPUTER MODELLING AND SIMULATION TECHNIQUES IN PAPERMAKING INDUSTRY.

Competitiveness of pulp and paper industry is challenged dramatically in Europe today. Traditional papermaking as well as new fibre-based products should be developed in order to maintain Europe's leading role in pulp and paper technology. Pulp and paper production is largely determined by fluid dynamics of fibre suspension flows. The objectives of the Action deal with numerical modelling of fibre suspension flows as well as validation measurements. The Action will offer industry a forum to solve test cases relevant to industry and to compare simulated results to experiments. Together simulations and experiments will result in more reliable simulation tools to industry.

One of the most important tool to get the COST Action working are the
Short Term Scientific Missions (STSM).

STSMs are aimed at strengthening the existing research network by allowing scientists to visit an institution or laboratory in another COST Country to foster collaboration, to learn a new technique or to take measurements using instruments and/or methods not available in their own institution or laboratory. They should contribute to the scientific objectives of the Action and are particularly intended for young scientists.

Who (can apply):
* You must be a doctoral student or an employed researcher.
* Typically the STSM is from one COST country that joined the FP1005 Action to another such country. However, if you are based in some other country there is still a chance you may be eligible.

Where (Host institution):
* Any institution in any of the COST countries that joined the FP1005 Action
* STSMs cannot take place within the same country

How (Application procedure):
* On-line registration form at http://w3.cost.esf.org/index.php?id=91
