Do I need private health insurance?
Generally speaking, if you want to come to Italy, you must have
an insurance policy, whether private or issued by a Health
organisation/institution in your country of origin. If you are a
EU/EEA citizen, you are covered by the European Health Insurance
Card (EHIC) unless you move your permanent residency to Italy. You

How can I register with a General Practitioner?
To register with a General Practitioner (and/or a
Paediatrician), you must first have been registered with the
Italian National Health Service (SSN). Once you have registered,
you will be able to choose a General Practitioner and/or a
Paediatrician for your children. If you are not registered, you can
nevertheless access this service, but you will have to pay

Do I need a Tax Identification Code? Where can I get it?
The Tax Identification Code (codice fiscale)
is a citizen's fiscal identification and it is often required in
Italy for all sorts of procedures e.g. opening a bank account,
registering with the national health service, renting a flat,
applying for a telephone landline, etc. It is issued immediately
and is free of charge. The application must be made at local tax
office of the Italian Inland Revenue Office (Agenzia delle

How can I apply for family reunion?
You can apply for family reunion only if you hold a permit of
stay for subordinate work, self-employment, study, family, research
or religious reasons issued for a period no shorter than 1

What about my driving licence? Is it valid also in Italy?
If you are a EU/EEA citizen or come from a Third Country, you
are entitled to drive in Italy with your driving licence, unless

What documents do I need if I want to open a bank account in Italy?
Bank accounts can be opened in Italy by both residents and
non-residents above 18 years of age. Foreigners working in Italy

Fiscale), a recent utility bill (as a proof of your address)
